Piedmont Dance Theatre presents The Nutcracker
In its 16th season, Piedmont Dance Theatre has been hard at work to present their latest production of The Nutcracker. Featuring Tchaikovsky's full music score, the entire production has been updated within the past three years and re-choreographed offering a new and fresh look for this classic performance. Artistic Director, Rebecca Massey Wiley, explains, "Our production is updated every year in an effort to continually challenge our dancers and engage the audience." This year's production of The Nutcracker has a cast of 110 performers and includes dancers from Piedmont School of Music & Dance, ages 6 to 51. Guest artists affiliated with Boston Ballet, Royal Ballet, American Ballet Theatre and So You Think You Can Dance will be rounding out the cast in feature roles as the Sugar Plum Fairy and her Cavalier, Russian Trepak, Snow King and Arabian. So You Think You Can Dance finalist David Greenburg will play the titular role of the Nutcracker Prince. The cast also features dancers from from Davidson, Denver, Huntersville, Mooresville, Mt. Pleasant, Salisbury and Statesville. Piedmont Dance Theatre will join forces with Salisbury Symphony Orchestra for two performances at Keppel Auditorium on Saturday, December 15 at 6:30 p.m. and Sunday, December 16 at 2:30 p.m. Adult prices range from $25 - $45 and tickets for children ages 17 and under are $17.50 -$25.
