EquipHer Workshop Series
“EQUIP Her” is a four session program for teen girls ages 13-16 years old. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department partners with local organizations and agencies to facilitate an interactive educational workshop series in communities located within the Freedom Division of The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. This workshop provides an opportunity for youth to engage with law enforcement in a positive manner while capitalizing on the importance of interactive skills based education.Each of the individual sessions focus on addressing key topics on personal safety and victimization, self-care and self-image. At the conclusion of the workshop series,participants will be better equipped with an understanding of the impact that social media and society have on their self-image. They will develop skills to support individuality and valuing themselves and others.They will have an understanding of the impact of media messages,issues with negative body talk, including how it can damage self-esteem, participants develop positive skills that impact their self as a whole.Furthermore, participants will have an increased knowledge on personal safety and victimization, what’s right, what’s not, and how to tell the difference. At the completion of the workshop, participants should be able to reflect on their developed skills and apply them to their future goals and dreams. In addition, participants that attend a minimum of three sessions will receive a certificate of completion.This workshop does not require a participation fee for the participants.
