Storms tracking across the area this morning

CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

This Morning

More strong storms with high winds and heavy rain for the region.  There's the threat of severe thunderstorms and even a spin-up tornado.

It's also important to monitor the risk for localized flooding across the region. The Carolinas experienced some flooding on Saturday, then more rain on Wednesday. Any additional heavy rain could lead to quick-rising water, especially in low-lying areas prone to flooding.

On top of this threat, you add in the gusty winds in excess of 50 - 60 mph we could experience again, more trees will likely topple over. This will lead to more power lines down.

This Afternoon - Friday

The good news is that most of the rain and storm activity wraps up by noontime Thursday which keeps us dry for the big 'Day 1' of the Wells Fargo Golf Tournament. Sky conditions will clear allowing for sunshine to return and highs to return to the low-mid 80s. However, it'll still be muggy.

A few pop-up storms will return Friday but the chance is low, and especially south of Charlotte. Highs will reach the upper 70s. Overnight lows fall to the upper 40s and we'll wake up Saturday morning feeling refreshed for the first time in quite awhile.
